VersaCAD and Pipe Organ Design

John Brombaugh has been using VersaCAD for nearly 20 years to design some of the most beautiful organs in the world. John Brombaugh & Associates, Inc., Eugene, Ore., based pipe organ designers and builders, recently designed and built a 4200-pipe organ – the second largest project ever designed by the company - installed in the new concert hall built by the City of Toyota, Japan. Brombaugh used VersaCAD, a computer-aided design/drafting (CADD) software solution for architectural, construction, civil and mechanical engineering by Archway Systems of Huntington Beach, Calif., for the design.
“VersaCAD does everything we need in designing pipe organs; it is intuitive, very easy to learn and easy to use. We were even able to share our files for the City of Toyota’s organ with a production shop in northwest Germany that assisted us in building the instrument. All the design files transferred seamlessly,” states John Brombaugh, president and principal designer at Brombaugh & Associates, Inc. “Though the organs we make are based on historic ideas found in 15th- through 17th-century European organs, during the last 14 years we have combined that ancient technology with new high-technology concepts by using VersaCAD for the design work on all of our projects.” John has very recently decided to retire and has made many of his designs available to be included with purchase of VersaCAD. This package of designs and macros makes a great starter kit for any pipe organ designer that purchases VersaCAD for either their Windows or Mac OS X computer.
